Opening of Refurbished Ba Women’s Accommodation Centre

Hon. Premila Kumar, Minister for Local Government, Education, Heritage and Arts officially opened the Refurbished Ba Women’s Accommodation Centre at the Ba Multipurpose Bure today.This accommodation centre consists of a dormitory which include beds with pillows, open kitchen and dining area and indoor toilet and bathroom facilities. There is washing and drying area made available as well.The accommodation centre will provide accommodation to about forty (40) women who come from rural areas and have their home far away from the Ba Town.The objective of the Refurbished Ba Women’s Accommodation Centre is that the women vendors will be able sleep well for the night they stay back in Ba Town and are able to have shower, have their meal in clean and comfortable place before they start their sales for the day.This project is completed under Market for Change Project which promotes gender equality through the economic empowerment of women market vendors in Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. It brings together governments, market vendors and market vendor associations (MVAs), civil society organizations and UN agencies. M4C is implemented by UN Women in partnership with UNDP and the Governments of Australia, Canada, and New Zealand”.
